So far there is little information circling about recently formed Varsity, a garage style rock band from Chicago. However, their first two songs, “Downtown” and “Turns Out,” seem to be the start of something good.

“Downtown” is a solid piece of rock ‘n’ roll, with all of the standard relationship angst that you could expect from twenty-somethings living in Chicago: “I don’t wanna go downtown / I’ll see you when I’m not fucking around / And I am not your typewriter / I am just a boy who makes you know what you’re worth”. The song is wonderfully dynamic, however, because despite the sentiment behind the lyrics the tone makes you pretty sure the speaker is on their way downtown all the same, brilliantly capturing a situation that most of us have been in before. Overall, Varsity has found their musical niche and are doing it well.
