A sexy wash of background vocals and oversimplified percussion provide a vintage feel. That happens to be ideal for the voice of Josef Salvat. Interesting in its slowest moments, “Every Night” captures an old-school sound not often found in these complicated, effect-driven times.

Make no mistake, the vocals of Salvat are the main attraction in this powerful melodrama, yet credit the cast of supporting characters with boosting the Londoner’s latest single into a tastefully portrayed production. With the drum line slowed to a crawling pace, a band of backup singers provide the framework for the emotional fireworks of Salvat’s lyrics. Just do not expect a modern display of expensive pyrotechnics from this antiquated, one-cannon performance. A couple of short notes from a playful guitar is about as wild as this one gets. No need for more excitement as Josef Salvat reveals a surprisingly powerful love proclamation hidden in plain sight. “Every Night” is a perfect showcase for an even more powerful voice.
