Banks’ career has not been unlike the arrival of spring itself — it veritably sprung out of the ground. With the release of her 2013 EP, London, Banks became the center of international attention, and she’s been steamrolling ever since. Fans anxiously awaiting the release of her first full-length album have something to satiate them, at least temporarily. The title track of the upcoming album, Goddess, is probably the best amuse-bouche we hope for: it’s clean, minimalistic, and sexy with a snapping snare. What more could you want?

Sound-wise, Banks is along the lines of The Weeknd and Disclosure, but her grit reminds me more of M.I.A. or Santigold. Her personal brand of dark pop lends itself well to the sleekly menacing and smugly content girl-power lyrics, hissing the warning-like “fuckin’ with a goddess and you get a little colder.” Less in-your-face than her more hip-hop oriented peers, Banks’ track brings the bite in a way that makes this an all-around anthem.
