“Lost Boys and Girls Club” — a most-welcome single from the Dum Dum Girls soon-to-be-delivered Too True — is, to say the least, fucking excellent. And, if you’ve paid even an ounce of attention to the band over the last four years, this will come as no surprise: their ability to consistently deliver new music that only improves upon their last has been unmatched (yes, unmatched) by any band (yes, any band) over that span.

That’s not to say “Lost Boys and Girls Club” doesn’t sound like the Girls. Still remaining are the crisp guitar parts, Dee Dee’s always-enticing vocals, and the anthemic — yet simple — drum beats. But the song does boast a nearly-rotund bassline, which gives “Lost Boys” a meatier feel than we’re used to. And while Dee Dee is still obviously stuck on a broken heart, she’s starting to squint past the glaring sadness. Which, with Too True dropping in January, is only a good thing: we can all benefit from a little shimmer and sun once the quickly approaching winter does in fact arrive.
